In the latest edition of the ” Awards for Asia” ceremony organized by the Asian Sportswriters Union held in Kuala Lumpur on the 29th August 2019. Mary Kom and Son Heung Min were adjudged the best female and male athletes.

India’s leading boxer Mary Kom bagged the award based on her exploits in the Asian Women Boxing scene. The 36 year old mother of two is the only women boxer to have won a medal in seven world championship.

While Mary Kom general weight category is 48 kg but this time at the world championships she will compete in the 51 kg flyweight category -the one chosen for the Olympics next year.

And the Son Heung Min is Asia’s leading face as he plays for Tottenham in the Premiere League and the Champions League.

Son is an amazing football player and he has been selected for the first Asian award . Apart for the individual award, japan women’s football team won the best female team award for their 2011 women’s world cup.

Mary Kom : Mary Kom is a Indian Olympic Boxer from Manipur. She is the only women to become World Boxing Champion for a record six times. She is the only Indian women boxer to have qualified for 2012 Summer Olympics, competing in flyweight category and winning a bronze medal.

Mary Kom had been also ranked No 1 in AIBA World Women’s Ranking system. She became a first Indian woman boxer to get gold in the Asian Games 2014 and Commonwealth Games 2018.

Mary Kom was nominated by the President of India as a member of Rajya Sabha in April 2016.

On 24 November 2018, Mary Kom created history by becoming the first women to woman to win six world championships, achieving this feat at the 10th AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships held in New Delhi, India.
